Data Scientist – Energy Markets
We are seeking a Data Scientist to join our Energy Markets & Operations team. This position offers the opportunity to apply advanced analytics and machine learning to improve energy trading, forecasting, and operational decision-making. Your work will help optimize the performance of our Virtual Power Plant (VPP) and support the renewable energy transition.
Role impact
You will build and operate advanced data and forecasting models and analytics systems that support energy market participation, price forecasting, and strategic bidding for the VPP. Working closely with our trading and operations teams, you will deliver tools that contribute to revenue optimization and reduce imbalance exposure. Your work will be measured through operational metrics such as forecast accuracy, imbalance cost, model reliability, and trading performance contribution.

Key responsibilities
Market Analysis & Forecasting

Develop predictive models for price forecasting, demand planning, and market volatility.

Analyze market trends, regulatory impacts, and supply-demand dynamics.

Create automated trading signals and risk assessment tools.
Operational Optimization
-
Support the development of optimization models for portfolio and asset management.

Implement real-time monitoring systems for grid operations and energy flow.

Apply machine learning for predictive maintenance and performance improvement.

Build tools for asset performance audits and regulatory reporting.

Provide analytics on asset performance, revenue, forecast accuracy, and imbalance costs.
Data Engineering & Analytics

Design and maintain data pipelines for large-scale market and operational datasets.

Integrate diverse sources, including weather data, market prices, and grid operations.

Build interactive dashboards and reports for trading, operations, and strategy teams.

Track KPIs for model accuracy, market performance, and revenue contribution.
Cross Collaboration and Research, and Innovation

Collaborate with planning and operations team to ensure the models can reflect real-world behavior

Stay informed on developments in renewable energy forecasting and smart grid analytics.

Collaborate with internal teams to identify new analytical opportunities and improvements

Contribute to industry best practices and technical knowledge sharing.
What you bring

Master’s or PhD in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.

2+ years’ experience in data science (energy, commodities, or financial markets preferred).

Proven experience deploying ML models in production.

Proficiency in Python and core Data Science libraries.

Experience with SQL and database management.

Skilled in data visualization (e.g., Grafana, Metabase).

Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS or GCP) and containerization.

Familiarity with time series analysis and forecasting.

Energy market knowledge and experience in energy trading or financial markets is an advantage, but not necessary.
